So, Borderlands pre sequel
I did not expect much.
I was hyped about the first borderlands. Loved it for the most part, but had some problems with it. Second one...was good. Better I guess. It pushed hard into the territory of "casual game with jokes in it" and I didn't mind that much. But I no longer cared for the story or the quests in any way. Even the characters became just the vessels for the game for me, instead of....whatever gearbox wanted them to be. The game was pretty and gunplay was mostly fine. That's what I cared about.
That's also why I didn't care about pre sequel. If they continued in the same direction, it would be more of the same and I could play the second for that.
Boy was I wrong.
I still don't care much for the story or the characters. The gunplay is still the same. The game is pretty but the environments and enemies are mostly still the same.
There is nothing but one change that I like. The jumping/flying improvements. The O2 kits add so much to the actual meat of the game, it's unreal. No more sitting behind a box and shooting stuff, because if you run out, they will kill you.
Now you can almost literally fly around and shoot shit from any point. Circle around the battlefield and abuse vantage points. Dodge rockets by boosting sideways while charging onwards. The "how" still changes if you are in a gravity zone, but even then you still have that boost and the slam.
Oh and the slam is an amazing solution to the "being swarmed by small things on all sides" problem.
There are still downsides to this newgained verticality. Specifically, if you jump somewhere high up, somehow you die (most likely to a barrel that you slammed onto) and cant see the enemies, you will still just die and have to run back in. I hoped they would devise a single player solution to this mechanic, because let's be honest, it's not even remotely the same thing as having the same happen in multiplayer and a mate reviving you.
